Clarence, NY, named from the English House of Clarence, was established as the first township in Erie County in 1808. From its humble beginnings to its current population of over 30,000 residents, Clarence’s quaint village charm still abounds today with its many small shops and historic attractions scattered throughout the town, including some buildings recognized or pending recognition by the National Register of Historic Places. There is always something enjoyable to do in Clarence, be it the annual “Winterfest” celebration in January, the annual tree lighting in November, or the annual Clarence Fishing Derby in April.
Clarence is widely recognized for its excellent educational system for K-12 students and there are many public and private options available. The Town is conveniently located near to major commercial thoroughfares that offer easy access to retail, shopping and entertainment, as well as highways offering a quick commute into downtown Buffalo. Despite its many, popular residential developments, the area has maintained much of its open lands, parks and preserves, offering a haven for wildlife and a scenic backdrop for many popular Essex Homes communities.
